Millwall claim vital three points at Shrewsbury

Millwall's play-off push gathered momentum with a win at relegation-threatened Shrewsbury.

The Lions dominated from early on with former Welsh international striker Steve Morison hitting the bar twice.

The deadlock was finally broken by Millwall in the 35th minute when centre back Byron Webster latched onto a flick on by Morison before swiveling and volleying into the bottom corner.

Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo almost put the ball in his own net straight after the break, but his clearance from a Shrewsbury cross went just over the bar.

Shaun Hutchinson then made it 2-0 to Millwall in the 77th minute as he scrambled the ball home from close range following a Shane Ferguson free-kick.

Shrewsbury gave themselves hope of salvaging a point when winger Shaun Whalley fired past Tom King in the 90th minute, but the Lions were able to hold on for the four remaining minutes of stoppage time to take all three points back to South London.
